When people ask what kind of magazine Heeb is; I typically describe it as the Jewish Mad Magazine. The humor is offbeat and often offensive. Just the type of project we here at 2 Out of Three like. Like many publications Heeb was looking to transition from the physical world of print to the digital world of the Internet. So after some kvetching we got down to business and built a website, and God willing you’ll like it.
The design offers an homage to Heeb’s origins in print using their traditional font of Lubalin Graph and pushing images to the edges of the content plane, lending the feel of a magazine page. And the site surfaces archival content that was long since forgotten or hard to find in the site’s original iteration. Heeb’s future is online and this design focuses on creating a robust website that will attract new readers and better engage their existing audience. A grid-based layout serves as the underlying structure for every page, while the classic web fonts Verdana and Times New Roman ensure each article is easy to read and quick to digest. Tools such as Twitter, RSS, and commenting increase audience participation and foster a dialog on the site. Overall the redesign has taken Heeb from a magazine with a website to a media company centered around their website.
